OLGA receives takedown notice

So, I went to trusty OLGA to look up a guitar tab for a song whose recording I paid for and legitimately own or license or whatever. There's a notice up saying the archive has been shut down because of legal problems. Now, I remember when this happened seven or eight years ago. It was irritating, and when it came ( Read more... )

That kitten looks exactly how I feel.

If you ever see an icon of a kitten with broken glasses juuuuust like Michael Douglas in Falling Down, you have to tell me.

Fitting choice of songs to be listening to.

Though Soundgarden is not gonna cheer you up. :)

Strangely, music other people think is depressing does cheer me up... but I'm strange.

I wouldn't call Soundgarden depressing. :) Way too much energy for that.

You're probably exactly right. It's cherry-picked data to support their argument. ASCII guitar-tab was on the net way before guitar-rock made its comeback. And at that, fan-created ASCII guitar-tab is more like an imposter recipe for a trademarked entree like the Outback® Bloomin' Onion®. For many years there was a great FTP site of all the song lyrics to every song on every album and that was shut down about 10 years ago. Which was ironic only because it was the same deal - fan-created "best guesses" at lyrics, created largely in the days when cassettes came with misshapen cover art and the liner devoted more space to touting the wonderousness of metal tape than credit to the people who made the album.

Shhhh! Or you're gonna get my recipe hookup shut down, too!

(Incidentally, if you find a recipe that swears up and down that it's Subway's very own Southwest Sauce... it's lying. A lot.)

Similarly, Styx and Supertramp tab probably outsold some of the biggest acts of the 80s, because the guitar people were waiting for something like Nirvana to happen. Kind of like we are waiting out this president we have now.

What's next? Are you going to come sue us for learning to play the songs by ear in our basements?

They even asked me to be a witness in the trial against you. You will be happy to know that I refused!

I have a bullet-proof defense. When I play, it sounds absolutely nothing like the song I'm attempting.

That what it sounds like when I play the piano to.

We should all just start copyrighting shit the RIAA thinks it gets to use for free. Maybe trademark all the nonsense hip hop slang or stupid bubblegum pop names and just start suing them.

I'm gonna trademark the word lawsuit and sue them every time they put it in a press release or a threatening letter.
