Hikaru says it without thinking, because honestly that was the first thing that he thinks of when Inoo asks him what he wants to do for Christmas.

Inoo stares at him and then blushes a thousand different shades of red.

"You're joking."

"I'm serious--can we?"

"B-But how?"

"At my place or something. We'll do it ourselves."

"Hikaru, this is a joke."

"No it isn't," he answers seriously now. "Let's get married. I'll get a proper ring, do a proper proposal, and then you'll come to my place on Christmas and we'll get married properly."

Inoo wonders why he agrees.

The idea disappears after a few days in Inoo's head, due to their hectic concert preparations, so when Hikaru pulls him to the park after work, he doesn't really know why.

It is pretty deserted at this hour and Hikaru drags him all the way to the corner, squeezing through a few trees to a small clearing.

"Really, Hikaru, what is this? I need to go finish my schoolwork--"

He chokes when Hikaru gets down on one knee and presents him with a small velvet box.

"Inoo Kei, will you marry me?"

He nods, a little dazzled, and Hikaru gets back up to slide the ring onto his finger.

"Looks good on you," the younger one smiles and captures Inoo's lips in a sweet kiss beneath the stars.

He still thinks it's a little dumb when he turns up at Hikaru's apartment after their concert. He knocks and waits, and suddenly nervousness erupts in him and he feels like running. This is really a big joke, he decides, but before he could run, the door opens and his insecurities disappear as Hikaru appears, dazzling, in a crisp, white suit. Dazed, all he could do was stare at the younger male in front of him.

"Hey," Hikaru smiles, and then frowns as he notices Inoo's outfit. "Why're you not in a tux?"

"Uh--didn't have time to change," he stutters the lie, because he really hasn't prepared a suit at all.

"Maa, I guess this works too," the other chuckles. "It's our private wedding after all, who cares about what you're wearing..."

And that just makes everything worse, because Inoo now wishes that he did get a suit. The most formal thing he had on was his semi-formal blazer, thrown casually over a T-shirt and jeans. He feels out of place.

"You look good in that."

"Huh?"

Hikaru takes his hand and leads him into the living room with a soft smile.

"I said, you look good in that."

"T-Thanks."

Hikaru has obviously made an effort to decorate the place to resemble a small wedding chapel of sorts, with ivory banners and streamers on the ceiling and cream candles burning on his coffee table. Flowers decorated various surfaces, and rose petals were scattered on the floor to form an aisle from the doorway into the middle of the room, before the coffee table.

"So... here goes."

Inoo nods meekly. He feels his knees going weak and he has no idea when they're going to give way.

"Inoo Kei, do you take Yaotome Hikaru as your... er, lawfully wedded husband?"

"I-I do."

"Alright, your turn."

"Hikaru, really--"

"Come on, just say it."

"Y-Yaotome Hikaru, do you take... do you take Inoo Kei as your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," Hikaru says it without hesitation. He smiles and slips the ring onto Inoo's ring finger.

"Till death do us part," he whispers with his lips a breath away from Inoo's.

In the middle of the night Inoo wakes and sits up with Hikaru's arms draped careless across his stomach. He slips his ring off his finger and looks at it under the silver moonlight streaming in from the window. It shines prettily and he finds himself smiling.

"Merry Christmas, Hikaru."

He decides that it's the best Christmas he's ever had.
