So, after the huge disappointment NaNo ended up being for me (read: I ended up being a huge disappointment to NaNo), I've decided to put Silent Sunday away for a while and change gears a bit - just a bit ( Read more... )

First off: Scrivener is TOTALLY worth paying for, if you're a student (or you know one) then get the student discount and it's only $35. There's two people behind Scrivener and they so deserve the money.
End Rant.

Option #2 is very Lovecraftian I think so there's potential there. But for sheer originality I think you should go for #3. I think integrating an abandoned house into an ARG would be very interesting and it's a way to get them into the house that I'm almost certain hasn't been done before. One of the early experiments with alernate reality gaming was a wearable computer with a heads up display that showed you the virtual world where the buildings/landscape was similar but there were other characters/monsters (I think they used Doom). That would be cool to take a bunch of people who are used to seeing virtual phantoms in their HUD and then they see real phantoms and can't get out.
Just a thought.
Good luck!

I'm planning on paying for it after Christmas, I just want to be able to have the money to give presents. Also, on principle, I never buy anything without trying it; I have been ripped off way too many times by buying software that was only half of what it promised, and on a similar note, by buying video games that didn't work and that I couldn't return because I had opened it (how could I know it was defective if I didn't OPEN IT?).

End counter rant.

But thank you for your comment! :) I'm really leaning towards three at this point, but two hours ago, I was really leaning towards one, so we'll see how this goes. XD

I know what you're saying. Any I am definitely not one to talk about not downloading things. I just wanted to put in a good word for independent software which I will always pay for.

I also know what you're saying about having no money, believe me. 8)

+laugh+ For sure. But yes, it is AMAZING software and I am so glad that I stumbled upon it after being disappointed that there was no yWriter for Mac.

I'll tell you what, if I had money to burn, I would buy a copy for all my writer-friends too.

I vote Option 3, because I think you could make it work really well and it already sounds very interesting.

Ok.. so here's my take on your dilemma. I like the first option. Why? because in some ways it's more believable. You know in every neighborhood there's that one house that exudes spookiness. I could so see a group of people, maybe kids that used to live in that town who come back for a school reunion and decide to check out the house as adults. I know that sounds like "IT" but it's not really. Although I do see your point for the third one and given today's technology, it's highly plausible.

On another note.. this is my first time out to your blog. I had no idea it was here. It's quite lovely. I love the pic at the top and the snippet of poetry is one of my fave Robert Frost Poems. **Bonus points if you can name the film that it's quoted in**

Is the film The Outsiders? I've never seen it, but I seem to remember that from somewhere. Maybe my Lit class when we were doing Frost.

The only dilemma I have with Option one is that I want it to be a totally mixed group of people. I can see how that would still work with one, but I'd have to switch it up a bit.

And lastly, and most obviously... who is this? That's so embarrassing to ask, but I've got nothing to go on. XD

I'm stuck between options one and three. I wouldn't go for two because, and I don't know if you wanna make the beginning very long, but if you use option two it won't give you very much creative freedom. It reminds me of cartoons where they go looking for haunted houses and whatnot. Of course, I'm sure you could do an awesome job with it, but I think one and three would at least challenge you a little more.

I would say option one because it has the element of 'surprise,' I guess. The people who go in aren't expecting anything to happen. You can use the emotions and make it a lot more intense, I think.

I like option three the best because it's very believable given that the internet is used to much these days. I think a group of people being led to a haunted house by a malfunctioning (well, I don't know how you're planning on doing that, but that was the impression I got) computer game would be really cool. That definitely gives me the creeps more than the other two, and I think that's what you're going for haha

Hope that helped!-
