seriously? Her ignorant attitudes towards addiction, her pathologizing of stay at home mothers, her snotty and willfull ignorance of electoral politics and her hard-on for capitalism? There's plenty of good reasons that she's one of the more consistently frustrating feminists. I'm not sure I would have banned her for that particular exchange. I'd ( Read more... )

I got banned from the community feminist for being blunt, sarcastic about the rules, and accruing a bunch of warnings (only two of which I can remember being significant) in the past little while. The thread in which I got banned was a train wreck that wound up on stupid_free, and one of the members of the comm chimed in with that, completely out of left field. I have no idea whatsoever how I left that impression but it certainly isn't accurate.

I'm sorry I inflicted that pain upon you.

But I do appreciate the vote of confidence!

I thought someone was talking about Hillary Clinton for a second there.

You have a "hard-on for capitalism?"

of the more consistently frustrating feminists

That sounds like such a supportive view of feminism. [/sarcasm] Also the point of view of someone who's never heard of some of the wack-jobs who don't even get near that board.

You did break the rule but since it's essentially a stupid rule there's no sense in anyone getting all smug about it.

Apparently I've broken a lot of rules, but if my memory serves, most of my warnings have come from doing things like saying "lame" (ableist language, y'hear).

Don't ask me about the hard on for capitalism. Maybe if you define a hard on for capitalism as "Sometimes likes buying things," then okay, but...

I get a little twitchy when being a feminist is extended into "hating everything all the other feminists hate." I understand the connection with racism quite well, and other issues too, but eventually you have to allow people to like, I don't know, having stuff.

There are other issues in the community that frustrate me. Like I was hoping it would be a better place to talk about being in a conservative religion drove me nuts but apparently that edges too close to not being multi-cultural enough because I wasn't a Christian fundamentalist.

And the other day someone got called (not by a mod) on having an icon with "crazy person" in it by someone who "deals with mental illness every day." They cheerfully agreed to change it but I came this close to whipping out my mental illness street cred and telling someone to lighten the hell up. But that never ends well.

Yeah. Someone got banned for an "ableist" macro which involved a person in a wheelchair on the back of a unicorn with a rainbow behind it. I think I got a warning for chiming in on that too.

I'm not claiming total innocence here because I know full well that I can be a shit disturber (even if I don't mean to), but that statement? Hard on for capitalism? I have to draw the line.

I don't think it makes any more sense in context.

That whole feminist thread was a load of "fail." I mean seriously. Even people who weren't saying anything BAD and were just trying to diffuse the situation got warnings. What the fuck!

I'd probably get banned in a week, given the "warnings" I saw.
