In which I fix Advent Children

I've been watching my sister play VII and it's been filling me with so many VII-related feelings, which is probably going to lead to a string of VII-related entries, starting with:

What annoys me most about the compilation is that it didn't have to suck. It's like they decided to forego the editing process completely or made a conscious decision

Though, I will never get over my hatred for Cloud's AC outfit.

In the Reunion Files I remember reading about initial ideas and plots and how the Geostigma should be implemented, and I remember all or at least the majority of them sounded better than what we got in the end. I remember one idea was to have Sephiroth appear as a apparition and only Cloud could see him, which I liked. I think it would have been cool to have Cloud doing his daily thing or talking with AVALANCHE then suddenly there he is standing among them and Cloud's doesn't know wtf to do and AVALANCHE are giving each other the side eye thinking 'ah fuck he's freaking out again'... yeah.

Actually I would have preferred more AVALANCHE in general but SE can't even manage that anymore.

I think a lot of what they did was bullshit, but more importantly, it was badly executed bullshit. It's one thing to have a barely coherent idea and another thing entirely to decide to execute said idea in the stupidest way you can imagine.

I really think someone is under the impression that stupid is better, but I can't figure out WHY. Like they weren't trying to make it more accessible to non-fans, because the movie didn't even make any goddamn fucking sense to people who DID play the game... So wtf?

I love the Compiliation; Crisis Core and Advent Children is what got me into FFVII in the first place. My only real issue with it is Aerith's characterisation - ok, in CC I can cut her some slack because she is just a teen after all, but in AC and in Kingdom Hearts she loses that attitude from the original game where she wasn't afraid to mock Cloud for his over-protectiveness and was more than capable of taking care of herself as well as being more willing to do things other than just cheer from the sidelines. I gotta admit that while overall I think Square got some great VAs involved in the dub versions, Mena Suvari..just isn't Aerith.

Another thing was how little screentime Sephiroth ended up with considering he is the god damn main villian, yet he only shows up for about 5 minutes. They did manage a slightly better job in AC Complete at least.

Heheh, I definitely agree. Aerith needs some more justice done in the character department. I don't know how "Don't tell me to go home" and "I'm from the slums I'm used to danger." went to "Save us Sora, you're the only one who can." and "You're so brave Zack!" I would agree with the CC thing as maybe she's younger but the problem seems to be more related to WHEN the games were made rather than WHEN the storyline takes place. X__X Also, Mena Suvari was terrible, the Crisis Core girl sounded a bit better though..

Well, I agree with the Sephy thing, but also...poor Red XIII. How you became Cait Sith's new toy, I'll never know. X__X It's like "Eh, let's just toss the animals together." XDD

I'm sure I read somewhere that the reason why they didn't include the stuffed Mog (and Red too for that matter) was because it was difficult to animate or something similar but if they can put that much work into Cloud and Sephiroth's hair then nothing else should be a problem lol.

I hate the Compilation with the fiery burning passion of a thousand suns - but I actually don't take issue with Aeris in AC, outside of Mena Suvari's terrible voice acting. The impression I generally got from her was along the lines of "lol come on cloud let's get over it now," though that may just be me? They're definitely softening her, which is stupid and antithetical to her character, but a reduction in complexity is basically how they handle everything comp-wise, IMO.
