Part Two of Two - Some Hembeck and Ditko next, gang

Just a reminder - if anyone official-like wants me to take this stuff down, I will. I think it's important for people to see how good a job some folks are at telling a fun, engaging comic book story without resorting to continuity-porn on every page. Jeff Parker's one of those guys.

I think the hug on page 17 shows a lot of what most people seem to WANT from their comics but haven't been getting in a long long time.

That's part of it, I think.

I'd say I think most of us would settle for comics that weren't aimed at 16-21 year old boys or regressive 35-45 year old men, but that's the same thing as the other and what you said as well...

Awesome! It's like all of the fun and much less of the ingrained chauvinism and "all women are motivated by love" style of characterization of the Silver Age.

I'm not totally fond really like the design for the characters -- their limbs look creepily thin. But I love the design for Sue's face. I like when she looks like an older, Mom type. I have a level of respect for Jessica Alba, who at least seems to genuinely enjoy her role rather than treat it as a paycheck (i.e. Ms. Dunst). But I still wish we could have had more of a mommy-type.

I don't have anything against Jessica Alba (actually, given the rest of the cast in the past two FF movies, the only one I really dislike is the guy playing Doom), but *my* Sue Storm would be played by either Cameron Diaz (for the old school/ girly but push her and she kicks your ass that was Sue for the first 150 issues of the comic) or Charlize Theron for any version of Sue since 1978 ( ... )

Ugh, agreed. I think my "favorite" part was his temper-tantrum during the "OMG! I have lightning powers!" scene.

even so, there's an emphasis on Sue and Jean's bodies in the art here that I don't think I like, but I was saying that this is a problem I've always had with Cruz.

Yeah, he does have some gravity-defying boobs and unnecessary butt shots, here.

Sue should be mid-30's now, I think, just as Johnny is *just* hitting 30 the way Peter Parker is. Reed and Ben are 45-50-ish. Again, that's the way I see them, but I'm a guy who just turned 40.

No, that sounds about right to me, too.

Although I have to say it's going to be weird when I start outgrowing even more of the heroes I've known since I was a kid

i loved it. I agree with the previous comments about the gravity-defying boobs being a bit much, but guys have imagined them that way for eons, I'm sure. I was happy to see the acknowledgement of "women in the workplace" going through internal struggles that guys generally don't think about. Rang true-to-life for me. I'm also going to have to agree about the boulder moment. FANTASTIC! :) I need more positive female role models in my comics. :)

and it's always a pleasure to read your journal posts, my dear! By the way, the new journal layout is nice. As for the "change of career", wasn't it you who said that change is good? New perspective and all of that jazz. Now I'm going to go back and comb my comments to see what you said about me getting a job in something that pays poorly but is close to my field. :) I heart you, pops!!

Well, it's not so much of a change of career as an opportunity to take advantage of my strengths in a side-field where they'll be appreciated.

The two other "bill-paying, networking, access-to-cool-materials" jobs are still going to be done. So yeah - three jobs. Mom will be worrying, but Dad will be so proud.
