My dad's family, whom he has forced me to be estranged from his side of the family b/c of transition, still loves and misses me. Someone went to great lengths to get the message through. Family is good. Give them the opportunity to learn.

Perhaps try not to let your dad have the chance to interfere.

this sounds like a good development
i mean, family can be really strange (i know about kind of forbidden sides of the family)
but it is at least my personal experience that having a relationship with both sides is possible.
so, big *HUGS* from me, and my suggestion is to give it a shot :)
