My Birthday

Jan 23, 2008 07:43

Yesterday was my birthday. It was both good and bad with the bad being first so it was hard to get excited about it.

Bad:
I woke up to the sound of the cat puking. At least he jumped off the bed to actually do it.
I didn't get to have a leisurely morning and drink my hazelnut tea with cream.
Against a very long tradition I had to go to work.
J took me ( Read more... )

Do you like Susan Krinard? My somewhat vague memory is that I found her heroines wimpy and her heroes overly pushy with lack of justification.
Her: "Oh, no, we can't do that! It would be WRONG!"
Him: "Do it. Do it now."
Her: "Well OK, because you said so."
Him: "And I always know best."
Her: (reluctantly) "And you always know best."

*retch*

Or am I thinking of someone else? I always wanted Krinard to be decent. I like the werewolf idea.

She is not my favorite but I can get her books while waiting for a better one from someone else. Lori Handeland is good, very good. My favorite is Kelley Armstrong but I don't think you can get her books in the states. I have read all of them so far and I am waiting for her to write another. This is the worst problem with really liking an author. I am now keeping a list so I don't waste my time rereading any books. I don't recognize the covers. I am busy reading what is inside.

I really LOVE Lori Handeland (particularly the earliest one I found) and Kelley Armstrong. Have you tried Charlaine Harris? Katie MacAlister is lighter but quite funny. I'm of two minds about Rachel Caine. She is a decent writer, but I have trouble relating her main character.

For more of a fantasy touch, try _The Hobb's Bargain_ by Patricia Briggs.

Also more of a fantasy, I recently discovered Lois McMaster Bujold, particularly
_The Sharing Knife_ (two books out, waiting on the third)
_The Hallowed Hunt_
_The Curse of Chalion_ (1 of 2)
_Paladin of Souls_ (2 of 2)

Anybody else along these lines you would recommend?

Blue Moon was the earliest Handeland that I found. I am also reading Laurell K. Hamilton. Her books are in the werewolf and vampire genre. I know that her later books get sexually interesting as well. I haven't looked for the authors you suggested but I will check the library site soon and see if they have them.

I also read the JD Robb "Death" books but there are about 40 of them and I have to wait on each one to come from the library. It seems to take forever but it allows me to have a break between them so they don't all sound the same.

I read Jeffery Deaver as well but he writes crime fiction. I started reading him because of the movie "The Bone Collector". There are a lot of books about that main character, the quadriplegic forensic scientist.
