"I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one stumbling over the words," Toph replied dryly. It hadn't been long, but Toph secretly hated being inside a structure that moved. In a way, she preferred the flying bison to technology that made people a little lazy. It lacked being alert, ready for whatever one might find. She was REALLY glad Kir was here because there was no way she could really leave Vanaheim without someone with her. It was one thing to hear a vocal journal entry but it was another to try to understand a map.
"So where are we headed once this junk heap is done?" Toph asked, stretching out for a moment. "I can't read the map too well."
"The words here are weird," Kir complained. Whne Toph asked where they were going, he did a double-take. "Oy, I thought you had somewhere planned, that's why we got on this train -- meeting your friend or something?"
Then, oddly enough, he began to laugh. It was a little bit from stress and tiredness, but there was some humour in it to. "Best laid plans, an' all that..." he said, shaking his head.
As the train stopped again, Kir offered Toph his hand. It was just natural for him to do. (Admittedly, it was easier to offer a girl his hand now that he HAD hands.)
"Well, there ain't too much in this area. It says... St. Destino Hospital, ugh, I just left a hospital, no thanks. Umm... Cafe Ersesat, that must be like a restaurant. O Pastor says it's a hotel. And Promenade Terrance looks like it's a house district or somethin'."
The café seemed to be the only reasonable destination, unless Toph was thinking of buying a house (then again, he thought, maybe she knew someone who lived there) but he kept quiet and let her decide.
"Thanks," Toph said and gladly took his hand. Normally she would have felt rebuffed and insulted in his thinking she needed help, but in all honesty she did right about now. She was in a completely unfamiliar place, and she wouldn't even have bothered if she was alone. She was a little surprised by the laughter, but took it for a good thing and offered him a smile
( ... )
"I don't like closed in spaces so much myself," Kir answered. "Used to having a little more space around me. I just don't mind the trains 'cause there's lots of 'em back home."
But he stopped short when Toph said she'd never been to a restaurant in her life. "What, you live in a palace or somethin' and have everything brought in?" He cleared his throat a bit when she asked if he felt like taking her on a date. While she wasn't the type of girl he normally was interested in, she was...
Whoa, wait, what was he thinking?? He was stuck in another world, without Jing, and with his own body, and he was--
After several seconds he answered, "Uh, sure. Café it is."
