The lumen that approached this odd group of non-Paixaoans did not at all mind drawing attention. In fact, its spectacular plumage was intended purely to draw the eye... and then entrance it with the dazzling lights of its tail, seemingly brighter now that the stenciled sun in the domed "sky" was setting. The dim light of evening was the best setting for this birdlike creature's coloring to show off to the best effect, and its natural glow made foraging for leftovers and handouts easier until darkness fell and the lumens became warier of the creatures of the night.

The delicious (for that was what this particular lumen's species was called) clucked and cooed, and the Paixaoan citizens took exceptional care to give it a wide berth. One or two of the locals made the mistake of looking at its fancy tail feathers and had to be scared away with shrill shrieks-- this lumen would let no man (and no woman, either) near its precious tail, which was the pride and joy of its being...

"Mm. One would indeed, but you shouldn't hold them doing their job against them. They're just pieces in a larger machine. Forcing the issue now would only put undue stress on the machine itself - and there is a time and place for that." The girl sizing him up in turn was hardly an unusual act; most people did that, at one point or another ( ... )

It sounded as though this man were well aware of the mechanisms at work in this city, a thought that pleased the young Proxian to no end. He also did not respond negatively to her forthright stare, which was a good sign after so many others averted their gazes. Perhaps a better choice in allies? At any rate, it would be impolite to ignore his advice, so she stepped back from the gates, smoothing her capes to make the best presentation of herself ( ... )

Picchu gave a brief nod at Sephiroth when he suggested the three of them talk.

She cringed a bit at the otherworldly shriek, but didn’t bother looking toward it. If anything, she was accustomed to strange noises, given her brother’s roles and tools. After all, nothing says creepy mythology better than perytons and Fomori. However, she did shift to turn the sword beside her toward the direction both Karst and Sephiroth had glanced to catch the source's reflection in its dim glow, giving the sword a sideways glance. Another one of those helpful creatures that was aligned more to herself. She shrugged, putting the sword back down. If anything, she might be able to try to speak to it if it came too close.

“You may call me Picchu.” She glanced back down at the journal, bringing back up the conversation that had irked her.

(OOC: Since I'm NPC-ing the lumen, I might as well combine its post with Piffany's entry here...)

Piffany was starting to wish she hadn't left Nodwick behind when she'd gotten fed up with Yeager and Artax for their sinful ways. The poor henchman was probably no happier with them than she'd ever been-- and she was sure those two were deliberately exposing poor old Nodwick to harm.

Still, there was a certain joy in discovering new places and not having to worry about Yeager running off to find a tavern or Artax blowing the whole thing away with a poorly-aimed fireball. And the splendid arch before her, decorated with pale blues and whites and silvers and shiny pieces of crystal glass to look like wondrous icicles, definitely looked like something Yeager or Artax would smash without a second thought ( ... )
