"Mm. One would indeed, but you shouldn't hold them doing their job against them. They're just pieces in a larger machine. Forcing the issue now would only put undue stress on the machine itself - and there is a time and place for that." The girl sizing him up in turn was hardly an unusual act; most people did that, at one point or another.

He might have gone on, were it not for the second voice addressing the two of them from behind. Her words echoed his own thoughts closely; any closer and he would have suspected her of having inside information, or at least telepathy. "Indeed. Perhaps we three should sit and talk a while? Share information and opinions, as it were?"

He was interrupted by the shrill shriek of an animal, and when he turned his head to look at the creature, he was momentarily awestruck. A beautiful animal to be sure, but there was something of the ethereal in its looks; to him, after a few seconds, this registered as a danger sign. Animals that looked like that tended to be dangerous, at least in his world. Shaking off the momentary dazzlement, he turned his attention back to Karst and Picchu. "Be wary of the bird," he stated bluntly.
