a friend of mine sent this to me today.  he knows i listen to his and his girlfriend's issues all the time, and i am often the shoulder people cry on.  he feels i am "the nice guy" so eloquently described here.  so here it is.  This, through brett and the other of this piece, is my ode to all of us good guys, who deserve a break.

I've decided that girls do the same thing that so many guys do: They mess around until they're ready to get married and then they want the 'marrying type' boyfriend. So, yes, in essence they do want a 'nice guy', but they know they won't want a crazy guy when they get married, so they get in 'crazy guy time' before they get married. Also, often those are the guys who somehow make a girl feel validated in themselves when the guy first shows interest. You wonder why I haven't dated in like... my life. I think when a girl is going to date a 'nice guy' she's 1) afraid she's going to damage him because she's not nice enough 2) afraid it's going to result in a serious relationship (yes, girls are afraid of commitment, too) 3) afraid he's not going to be as great a boyfriend as he is a friend 4) afraid their friendship will be ruined, and she can't deal without her guy friends.

Just some hypothesis

Oh Lord. Feel free to delete this unsolicited comment from someone you don't know very well, but: There is a difference between being a shoulder to cry on and being "manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned." A friendship isn't real when both parties are using each other. The women in the story seem pretty well aware of how lightly they're taking these guys--it's self-centered, even cruel. And the "nice guys" aren't any less dishonest--they put up with abuse out of hopes of getting "credit where credit is due," getting laid by their "friends". They wouldn't even be "just friends" with these women if it weren't for the hope of something more.

By all means, guys should be "nice" to their female friends! The world would be much worse for us women without buddies, protectors, and heroic shoulders to cry on. But they shouldn't get bent into knots and end up lying to themselves like all the nice guys in that story . . .

i think my intention behind posting this was simply a word of encouragment to guys who feel like they arent appreciated. its not an elbaborate rue to get guys laid for being friendly. It shows that taking the high road and being the good guy is the honorable way to go. Guys need to realize that having alot of female friends can be good...and you should have female friends, but that one day you will be noticed for being that great guy. thats my interpretation on this.

I guess how you interpret the "Ode to the Nice Guys" depends on where you're coming from. Since I've never known you to be disrepectful of anyone, I should have realized you weren't seeing that side of it and not commented with my jaded view. That right there proves that you are a better person than I. ^_^
