He sees Oswald glance at Leyden with a question shining in his blue eyes. Leyden waves it away with a shake of his head and Snafu ponders the possibility of there being something between the two men. The taller of the two mortar men isn't so shabby on the eyes and his youthful expression lends itself to further inspection. He holds a serious expression that highlights his bright eyes and high cheekbones. The smooth mouth uncurls invitingly when his expression grows weary and his sighs sound good to Snafu's ears. In the end Snafu thinks Oswald has a pretty good face and he commits that information to memory knowing it might be useful later on when he has a moment alone ( ... )

He doesn't chase Sledge further and heads back to their makeshift mess hall. He stands in line like everyone else, but doesn't feel as hungry anymore. When he sees R.V. he sits down next to him and ignores the speculative glances his friend gives him at his silence. It isn't until the next day that he sees Sledge again and the somber mood the redhead is in is enough to make him scowl in annoyance. 'Boo fucking hoo. Your friend left, but at least he's still alive,' he thinks bitterly. 'Think about how the friends here with you can die at any moment.' Their peacetime respite is soon over when headquarters gives the order to launch a full scale attack on Peleliu island. He gears up with the other marines and gets into the armored piece of shit the navy call a landing craft. He hates the damn things with a passion few people know about and tries to clench his stomach against the wave of nausea that hits him. He momentarily forgets what he's thinking about when he sees Sledge standing to his right, unaware of how close they'd been. As he ( ... )

The shapes and colors of his dream are a myriad of red and black. The red covers everything, while the black morphs into dancing shapes that eventually look like the shadowed silhouettes of people. Over time he's become a light sleeper, but he still finds it annoying when he wakes to the sound of Oswald and Sledge talking ( ... )

I love that Snafu is so good at reading people and that he realises that he is obsessed with Sledge (being fascinated and agitated at the same time) but can't stop himself. I'd love to see you continue it.

Thanks so much for the feedback and I'm happy you enjoyed reading the fill.

I must admit that I was very conscious about how portraying Snafu in that way could backfire given that we don't know much about him yet. I think that the way you phrased it "being fascinated and agitated at the same time" is what I thought of Snafu's interactions with Sledge.

I might continue this once I get a better grasp of their characters and the writing style necessary to create new story lines. :)

Thanks for the encouraging words and I'm glad you enjoyed reading this. I think I might continue developing this further once I get a better handle on the characters.
