I remember it from last year, but it was well worth reading again.

I'm glad! It's been so long since I've read it that I enjoyed it myself; although I did have to stop and edit out references to my other stories.

Even though I'm a scrooge, I enjoyed this story. Miracle stories always make my optical lubricants leak.

Hm ... maybe you're insisting a little too hard that you're a Scrooge? *evil laugh*

I keep saying I am; but the truth is, I also get all optical lubricaty from sappy stories, happy endings and miracle tales. I simply write what I like to read. Oh, and I love Christmas lights and music, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone. :-)

when the nightmares waked woke her

Use Fabreeze Febreze

It looks like a 1963 Voltzwagon Volkswagon left in a swamp

I liked the continuing, How did you know it was me? theme. Another great xmas story.

Over here (at least, in this region of here) either waked or woke is considered okay, but I prefer woke -- I'm not sure how that sneaked into the story.

And how Volkswagon got by me, I have no idea ... my mom owned a 1963 model I've been spelling it all my life.

Much as I love my beta, sometimes I have to remind myself she's from Malaysia, and isn't a native English speaker; she's wonderful with overall story arcs and other general aspects of fiction, but maybe I should get a secondary for the nuts and bolts of the language.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it! Bottie's frustration with not being able to fool anyone wasn't planned; it just grew organically from the story.

At first I didn't remember this but it clicked in when they were talking about movies ("Bewitched" and "Saw", which made me laugh last year and again this year. This is a sweet story and I like it even more this year.

The names of the movies kind of date this story; maybe I should have changed one to "Saw 2". But I didn't expect to ever use the story again, so it didn't bother me at the time. In any case, I'm really glad you liked it!

This was just neat. And what an excellent ending, giving Bot and Tara a bedroom. :)

You know, it occurred to me this morning who Tara/Amber Benson reminds me of. Did you ever watch the final couple of years (circa early 1970s) of the TV series My Three Sons? Remember when Chip, the third son (after Mike and Robbie and before Ernie and Dodie) got married to his girlfriend Polly while they were college students? Polly was a dead ringer for Tara! Same shy, hesitant demeanor and personality; same awkward, almost clumsy body language and posture; same hairstyle and color; same pretty, heartshaped face. Spooky! O___O

"Buffy Classic"...bwahahaha! I love it!

“There are many mansions in Heaven, Bottie.” Now Tara’s smile became a little wistful, as if she was thinking about something far away. “Who knows? There may even be one for you.”

Aw, this reminds me of the part in 2001: A Space Odyssey where Hal the computer asks one of the astronauts if it (Hal) has a soul, and the astronaut replies without hesitation that yes, whether ( ... )

I watched My Three Sons when I was very little, but I don't remember much about it except the theme song. However, I Googled Polly, and you're right, there is an amazing resemblance. I also discovered a six degree of separation thing: the girl who played Polly is the daughter of Bobby Troup, who played Dr. Early on my favorite show from the late 70's, "Emergency!"; and the girl who played Polly's daughter on My Three Sons had a guest starring role on that show.

I'm glad you liked Tara's comment about Heaven; it reminded me of the 2001 line, too, but mostly I just wanted to leave the door open for all sort of possibilities ...

As for Richard's comments about pictures, that's a direct quote -- from me. I don't recall now which of my daughters told me they needed a picture of everyone, but every now and then I'm on the ball enough to get a good zinger off. :-)
