Man, it's a treat when he scores because it doesn't happen that often! And what about that challenge? Poor thing... I've read reports that he may not be able to play the next game against Scotland because of it.
I just read on Una's Con la Roja blog that he is the second highest scorer during the VDB era! Only David Villa has scored more than him!!! (He passed Fernando Torres with his goal on Friday.) He's the unexpected threat. Maybe that's why they're always after him in international matches?
This trivia surprised me quite a bit, tbh. His last goal in an official game was in the Confed Cup 2009. Yeah, he seems like the unexpected threat, when you see him going unmarked like before his goal on Friday. I got no clue how many of his international goals were free kicks and penalties though, which aren't exactly of the unexpected kind. It also shows how reliant Spain are on Villa's goal scoring prowess.
He more or less sneaks up on you with that. And I think international friendlies would count in goalscoring, because Spain played against the United States in the summer, and Xabi scored against them (It was a penalty, if I remember correctly.)
And did y'all notice how Sergio kind of hung back at the end of the celebration to have a word with Xabi? They really are getting close, aren't they? If this keeps up, we'll have to give Ramos his own tag... ;)
