I don't get it. Especially when it's absolutely minor parts. You can't tell me there aren't any equally adorable bilingual girls in Britain who could play that scene much better.
Whenever I hear about bad foreign translations/etc in stuff like this I AM JUST SO CONFUSED. Especially, like, dude, I don't know, EUROPE. Aren't you guys all crazy polyglots? NO ONE IN BBC SPEAKS GERMAN? IDGI.
I know! IDGI. I mean, Brits aren't big on learning foreign languages because everybody speaks English. And the actor should be a native speaker, because otherwise they will have an accent. But whatever, there have to be bilingual kids in Britain. And even if you can't find one, please go get a fucking plane ticket for 30€ and import a German child!
It can't be for cost reasons. Apparently, they really don't give a shit.
It seems kind of timely because I was just reading some youtube complaints about this episode of Scrubs that features two German characters (and the one main character who speaks German). Obviously I can't tell, but apparently the stuff scripted for the two people who are actually supposed to be German is really poorly pronounced and written, while the charcter who speaks German as a second language is apparently more competent, though she has an accent. The actress actually does speak German, so people were hypothesizing that she corrected her own lines, which just sort of leaves me scratching my head and going OMG THEN WHY DIDN'T SHE CORRECT THE OTHER ONES OMG IS IT REALLY SO HARD TO NOT USE BABELFISH.

I just watched it on YouTube and wow, that was some German! It sounded like they took it straight from some bad online translation service. "Lied to me" = "mich angelogen". NOT "mir verlügt". VERLÜGT IS NOT EVEN A WORD, DAMMIT. And yes, Elliot is stellar compared to the other two.
BBC, I would like to apologize. You are obviously doing a model job.
[Fun fact: In the German dubbed version of the episode, they had them speak Danish.]
