How and why didn’t matter right now. Answers could wait. Lee found himself blinking in disbelief as Kara grinned at him through the Viper’s clear hood. She looked, well, she looked alive. Kara looked vivid and real and full of life. Alive. Gone was the haunted, drunken glassy eyed face that had broken his heart before she disappeared and after, in his dreams. Kara, in her brand spanking new Viper, was beautiful. More than a sight for sore eyes, Lee told himself, Kara was a vision for his worn out soul. The events of the last few weeks without her had beaten him down without her around to fight with. His feelings for Kara had never been easy or restful, but they’d been a touchstone for Lee, one he thought he’d discarded when he married Dee, until Kara vanished into that wormhole or whatever it was. Freedom looked a whole lot like Kara Thrace all of a sudden. Just the hint of it was a relief from everything that had plagued every living person in the fleet since the first attack.
