hold me like a newborn, Supernatural, Dean & Sam, criboxoniensisApril 8 2007, 13:33:09 UTC
Four years, but everything is still familiar. The purr of the Impala, the damp leather smell of Dean's jacket, crashing late at night in crappy motels, belly full of grease and carbs.
The words in the journal aren't familiar though. Sam had thought it would be all about the hunt, nothing else, so it's a shock when he sprawls out on his bed and starts to read it. It's full of memories, family memories, everything Dad went through when Mom died, and Sam feels a lump in his throat just reading them. And then-then he has to smile, because dude, this is blackmail material par excellenceHe looks up at Dean, and can't keep the grin off his face

SO sweet!! :) I love it, completely in character for both Sammy to grab a chance to tease his brother, and for Dean to say so much without really saying anything at all. Think this one-page challenge is a great idea, memming 'cause I'm practically gonna live on this page now :D cheers.
the ragged edge of the universe: Sam/Jess, books, first, summer, quietrosekayApril 8 2007, 14:47:38 UTC
"Kansas," Jess says it like a joke, but a gentle one, less of an edge to her voice than when her father repeated it, so delicately, so fine a cut, or her friends from prep school when they visited

On the Screws: teen!Dean & teammates, winning pointrosekayApril 8 2007, 15:55:27 UTC
This is it, his TV moment. Bottom of the ninth, two runs behind, two outs, a full count, and Dean's hands sweating through his gloves. He forces himself not to look back at his teammates, a swarm of blue and white. Gatz is bouncing on second, eyes straight on Dean, lanky legs bent easily. The Norman fielders have started to close in, like they're afraid he's going to bunt

Cally can't sleep.
No, that's not true. Cally doesn't want to sleep. Because sleeping means dreaming. And dreaming means blood. Blood and flesh in her mouth, on her tongue, and she nearly choked when she did it, and she still doesn’t quite know how.
“The masseter muscle in the jaw is the strongest in the human body,” Cottle said when he was fixing her up, “It can generate two hundred pounds per square inch of biting force, and nine pounds of force can tear off a human ear.”
But she still doesn’t know how the hell she managed it, how she ever managed to sink her teeth into the man’s ear, and bring it off. She doesn’t want to know

Beautiful! Cally's fear, and her shame for feeling it after so many others have gone through worse, and Chief's kindness all seem so very in character.

And now that I am not running out the door with half-wet nail polish, I can finish reading and properly give feedback.
This is awesome. For one thing, it deals with the trauma Cally went through--something the show never did. For another, there's just--the little things. Like how everyone else has moved on from Cally's quarters, and Chief's sister, and Cottle talking about the force required to bite an ear off.
