TRUTH OR TALL; Firefly; Wash & Jayne; bluff

Two weeks out in the Black, with everything maintained and polished, amusement was hard to find, and most of the crew was engaged in a hybrid game so complex that the Shepherd had been drafted as referee (and peacekeeper). After two hands, Inara had said, "It's too rich for my blood," but stayed in the common area, mending a brocaded shawl.
Mal, Zoe, and a pint of hooch had the bridge. ("Where'd you find this gang of idiots, Sir?" "Bedamn if I know-call me if somebody's gettin' theirself murdered").
"Are you calling Kaylee a freak?" Wash said, looking down at the pair of Loquats with which he had bluffed his way this far. "Cause she's the one who's winning."
Triumph formed into dimples as Kaylee sat behind three Pineapples and a pair of Mangosteens and sorted through the chips in front of her. Chores didn't mean much when not only was everything done, but it would have been a relief to have something to do. She cast a look down the corridor, but her original objective still hadn't returned. So she said, "Wash!" and handed over the slip that said "A Smooch and a Squeeze."
Wash gazed at it, appalled, for a long moment, then pushed his chair closer to the adjoining one. Just as Simon returned, clutching his second-best pair of socks, Wash put his arm around Jayne's shoulders (Jayne tentatively, almost gently, stroked Wash's upper arm with his knuckles) and kissed the top of Jayne's head.
River picked up the deck and started shuffling as Book considered the day's exchange rate for socks in either chores or forfeits. "Mangoes are Tall," she said.

Glad you liked it, Skitty. I started working on another prompt that was going to be Mal/Simon but I never finished it because it was too conventional, and hosiery also figured--I didn't want to end up writing the biography of Simon's socks.
