And this cap is for anyone who thinks John is anorexic! Seriously, fandom, where on earth did that idea come from? Eating disorder!John in fan fiction just makes me cringe - the man is fit, and he likes his food!
It was probably someone making a joke and it got out of hand. Personally, I find it hilarious fandom either thinks Sheppard's anorexic or McKay's disgustingly fat.
I wonder if it did start out as a joke, and someone took it seriously. And it went from there - because I've seen it treated so seriously it's made me boggle!
And yes, Rodney being horribly fat is just as daft.
Gah. Now, excuse me for pointing this out, but I don't think I've ever read one single Shep/Weir fic where he had an eating disorder. So which pairing group is it that does this? Or is it a gen group? Either way, they need sporking. :P I had an eating disorder, and he definitely doesn't.
ACK! Four minutes! *runs off to watch the UK premiere of the "inside 200" documentary*
I've never read a single Sheppard/Weir story! *g* I mostly read gen or a few slash pairings: I'm fairly sure all the stories I've seen it in have been Sheppard/McKay or gen. Count yourself lucky is doesn't crop up in your pairing of choice!
It probably bugs me especially because I get a lot of people accuse me of being anorexic (not quite so much now, as I'm getting back up to weight) or of being too thin. The later's true, but not particularly polite coming from strangers or casual acquantances, and the former isn't true at all. So it's something I'm more likely to pick up on than others, I guess.
God, this was just a spectacular episode! I loved seeing Jack (I would fall in the Jack Fan category so this was just pure crack for me). The funniest part was watching the Lanteans - who are primarily familiar with Jack as 'General O'Neill' - suddenly discovering they've got snarky!Jack to deal with. John was really kind of floored, and I was laughing my ass off. :P
I certainly didn't realize what Rodney was up to, but I thought his bright eyed enthusiasm was a little off - reacting to Jack's presence, maybe? Then, of course, it all made perfect sense. The whole ep just made me insanely happy.
"Elizabeth, if it were up to me-"
"It is up to you."
"...Right."
*snickers* Poor Jack'll never be anything but a field operative at heart.
Funny, I was never a huge Jack fan when he was in SG-1 (he kinda irritated me at times) but his snark and sense of humour seem to work so much better in SGA (for me).
That's interesting, because I was thinking they're writing Jack differently these days. He seems less focussed, like he's just hanging around, glad not to be making the decisions. Maybe that's the difference you're perceiving.
I have a feeling that anorexic Sheppard came from his pants falling down all the time in season one. As if poorly-fitting clothing has to do with weight and not general shape.

It might well be, or it might be me just enjoying his character more, either because he's not around all the time, so I appreciate him more when he is, or some other reason I haven't fathomed. I sometimes used to find his flippancy a bit irritating, but it worked here, with the aliens and characters he was dealing with.

He's probably just slim-hipped and likes his clothes a bit on the baggy side. I just hope the notion will go away!

Me too! And I loved seeing Jack in Atlantis - I'm glad we've been getting a good number of crossovers between the two shows.

Too true! I think he was in his element here, even stuck with Wolsey! *g*
