i actually do petsitting as a side job right now. well, to be honest, i haven't had a job since december but that's because it's really slow right now.
i work as an independent contractor for a petsitting company (it's actually one woman). i prefer it that way because she deals with the owners and everything else. all i have to do is show up, take care of them, and make sure everything's in order.
i know our people like it when we get mail, water plants, and spend a half-hour there, one to two times a day. we also do 15 minute visits for kitties. finally, we have to leave a little update every time we do a visit that tells the owner what time we were there, what we did, and how the pet was doing. the owners really seem to appreciate that.
she charges the client $15 for a half-hour visit and i get $9. if you go with a company, you want to look for a 60/40 split like that since you're doing the majority of the work.
actually no, i'm told it's always slow this time of the year. it starts picking up around spring break/easter when people are traveling more. although with the price of gas going up, there might not be a lot of people traveling this summer which will definitely cause business to lag.
i saw ads on craigslist, but none for my particular area. so i figured i could try it, put my flyer up at the local vets, and in my laundry room and coffee shops. if i'm going to buy a $60 hoodie from pete wentz, i need to be ready. :)
