Let your heart be light...

Jan 08, 2008 22:03

A week or two ago, Martha asked Jack to sing her Christmas carols. Jack, feeling the need to be difficult, has not yet followed through.

But today seems like a good day to surprise her. He's not sure why, it just sort of... occurred to him.

And so he's sitting where he can see the door and the stairs, just in case Martha should come in or come ( Read more... )

Martha walks downstairs from her room.

She's heard the singing, obviously. She's... drawn by it and when she reaches the bottom of the stairs it's rather embarrassing how much effort it takes her not to just melt.

There's a tilt of her head to the side, and she almost... can't believe it.

It's like she's... dreaming, but there he is. Captain Jack Harkness singing a Christmas carol in the most gorgeous voice she thinks she's ever heard.

And she can't for the life of her interrupt him. Or move. Or breathe.

Jack notices Martha after a while, but doesn't stop singing. He rises to his feet and saunters toward her, throwing a few pretty riffs into the final lyrics just for her.

"Hang a shining star upon the highest bough, and have yourself a merry little Christmas now..."

Reaching her, he rests his hands on her hips, grinning at her.

"I think I promised you a song?"

Martha swallows with difficulty, helplessly breathless.

"Yes. I just didn't realize you- Your voice is..."

There was something about him. Something different.

And she'd never been more attracted to him.

"Hey, I'm not just a pretty face. I've got plenty of other talents too."

He grins and reaches up, fingers brushing over her cheek and tucking a bit of hair behind her ear.

"You liked it, then?"

Well, how could she not? Jack knows his voice is pretty damn fantastic.

Molokov comes down the stairs, eyeing the surroundings warily, as usual. He relaxes a touch when he doesn't see a certain doppelganger.

He does, however, see (and hear) Jack. He can't help but stop and just listen. He can't remember the last time he heard something so beautiful.

Jack glances back at Molokov and flashes him a grin. It's cocky, and charming, and flirtatious as always. It's a rock star grin.

"Hey. Haven't seen you in a while."

Molokov hasn't blushed in years. And he's not turned red now. It's just a trick of the light.

"I've been busy with things," Molokov says lightly.

"Oh?" Jack shifts a little, stretching out a little and beckoning Molokov over with a jerk of his chin. "What sort of things?"

Jack's been busy with things as well. Chances are, he's likely to be busier very soon.

He sees that blush, by the way. And finds it adorable.

"Oi, you, you should sing for me more often. Got a nice voice."

Oh look. Another victim time-traveller.

Rose grins and plops down in his lap.

He grins and wraps his arms around her as she flops on his lap. "Well, you never asked, did you?"

He gives her a quick kiss. And, as usual with Jack and Rose, it turns into a somewhat longer kiss.

Rose, you remember how kisses can transfer energy? Like when the Doctor kissed you when you had the Vortex in you?

This is not the same (or nearly as obvious), but something passes between them, leaping between them like a spark. Jack hardly notices.

Rose hardly notices either, but that something finds a plenty susceptible mind, already with a rhythm beating away, under the surface.

She pulls back, and laughs a bit. "'Course. Silly of me." She rests her head on his shoulder. "Sing for me, then."

Jack runs his fingers lightly through her hair, tilting his head to one side as he considers.

"What would you like me to sing, hmm? I've learned a lot of songs over the years."
