Let your heart be light...

A week or two ago, Martha asked Jack to sing her Christmas carols. Jack, feeling the need to be difficult, has not yet followed through.

But today seems like a good day to surprise her. He's not sure why, it just sort of... occurred to him.

And so he's sitting where he can see the door and the stairs, just in case Martha should come in or come downstairs - he's not sure exactly where she is just now.

And he's singing.
This is a song you've heard before, long ago, some other place...
No, it's not Christmas. It's past Christmas. But time never mattered much to Jack anyway, so he doesn't really care.

Jack's voice is, even normally, very good. Well, alright, frankly gorgeous.

But at the moment, in his current state, it's got a little something extra to it, something that works its way into people's minds and hearts and makes a place for itself there.

He's looking for Martha, sure, but he certainly won't turn away anyone else who wants to say hello.
