Kitty happens to have been leaving her own room when she notices the Doctor. Of course, she's just walked through the walls of the Inn, but that's normal for her.

She notices he doesn't look like himself so she approaches him with caution. "Hey, Doctor..." She states softly, a small smile on her face. "Welcome back."

She doesn't require much conversation at all, so if he doesn't say much, that's all right.

He would groan if it were nearly anyone else but instead the girl just gets a sigh.

"Thank you," he tells her, eyes remaining straight ahead. "I'm sorry Kitty, I just don't feel well right now, could we perhaps talk a little later?"

Kitty very well knows that something is very, very off about the Doctor. She just watches him silently, listening to his voice.

"Yeah, sure." She nods, but only moves closer, "But at least let me help you to your room, hmm?" She's gentle with her words, with her actions, because something tells her he's ready to snap.

But she might be very wrong, too.

He closes his eyes but doesn't pull away. Really, he just doesn't have the energy for this right now. Maybe if it were a week from now, or even a couple of days, he would tell her he's find, send her off and go hide, buut he's just so tired of fighting.

"Fine, all right."

His room isn't far but it's a comfort to know that if he falls over and doesn't move, someone can drag him the rest of the way there.

The Master had heard the Doctor was in the Inn from time to time, but he hadn't been expecting this one. He'd been expecting the most recent regeneration, the one that defeated him, the one whose arms he'd died in...

But he recognizes this one, oh yes. And he can't miss him when he enters, because he's been waiting.

He springs to his feet from the chair he'd been lounging in, growling softly but very clearly audibly, "Doctor!"

He wants to keep walking, to ignore the voice that calls out to him and just pretend he didn't hear a word of it but he knows he can't.

He turns to look at the other. "I'm sorry," he replies, his voice soft, hurt. "Can this please wait until later?"

The Master pauses for a moment, seeing the hurt in his eyes, and captured by it. He stalks toward him, eyes just slightly narrowed, expression otherwise... remarkably calm.

"And what is it, exactly, that you think we're doing?"

"I-I don't know."

His head hurts, his hearts hurt and he doesn't want to be here right now, especially not with this stranger who seems to make his headache grow worse with each approaching step.

"Please," he says, his words almost sounding desperate. "I really need to go, I"m feeling rather ill and..I just need to sleep a little. I'll find you after, really I will."

Well, this pregnant artist will certainly try. Because that look? Is not one that belongs on her Doctor.

So she just sort of falls into step next to him and slips her hand into his. "Limbs intact?"

His initial reaction is to pull away.

...Well okay, his real initial reaction was to pull away and start fighting but he doesn't want to admit it, doesn't want to think that the war is still so fresh in his system.

Instead of doing either, he grips her hand tightly, partly using it for support and partly because he's a little afraid of what will happen if he lets go.

He's not speaking and hopefully she'll pardon him if he doesn't for a little while longer, he just wants to get things straight, even just a little, before he goes and starting doing such a dangerous thing.

Okay. It was bad. Whatever it is, it was really bad. So she just tightens her grip, for the moment, and lets him lead. She doesn't know where his room is, but she's sure as hell not letting him go there alone.

His room is far but not terribly so and they reach it with almost no problem.

He turns to her, something that almost resembles a smile on his face but it's gone in a moment.

"Thank you," he says, opening the door, hands shaking a little.

There's a part of him that wants to send her away, to tell her that he's done so much since she last saw him, done so many terrible things and she doesn't need to be around it, doens't need to let that unborn baby around it either.

Rose isn't exactly paying attention. She's bored. But she's composing letters home to her mum. Out loud. Hanging upside-down over the arm of the couch.

"Dear Mum," she says, kind of sounding bored. "Am safe. Even though I almost burnt up. Jack says he knows me in the future, so I'm obviously going to live. The Doctor is a bit insane, but maybe that's 'cause his TARDIS thing gets in your head. It's psychic. The ship is psychic. That's bloody mad, innit?"

The words don't quite click initially, he honestly just doesn't have the ability to process a random girl's rambling with everything else in his mind.

Except for when she mentions the TARDIS.

He walks backwards until he stops in front of Rose. "Excuse me," he says, voice a bit sore. "What did you just say?"

If he can't go hide until this all stops hurting so much, he could at least get a distraction.

Rose blinks at him, upside-downly. "Uh... I dunno, just babbling. Burnt to a crisp, the Doctor, Jack, a psychic spaceship..." She narrows her eyes, somewhat suspicious. "Why, what's it to you?"

He's quiet, studying her for a moment and mentally going through all the companions he's had. "Huh, I suppose it hasn't happened yet."

He takes a breath before forcing a slight smile. "Well, considering that it's my ship you're talking about, I think it's got quite a bit to do with me."
