Kitty happens to have been leaving her own room when she notices the Doctor. Of course, she's just walked through the walls of the Inn, but that's normal for her.
She notices he doesn't look like himself so she approaches him with caution. "Hey, Doctor..." She states softly, a small smile on her face. "Welcome back."
She doesn't require much conversation at all, so if he doesn't say much, that's all right.
Kitty very well knows that something is very, very off about the Doctor. She just watches him silently, listening to his voice.
"Yeah, sure." She nods, but only moves closer, "But at least let me help you to your room, hmm?" She's gentle with her words, with her actions, because something tells her he's ready to snap.
He closes his eyes but doesn't pull away. Really, he just doesn't have the energy for this right now. Maybe if it were a week from now, or even a couple of days, he would tell her he's find, send her off and go hide, buut he's just so tired of fighting.
"Fine, all right."
His room isn't far but it's a comfort to know that if he falls over and doesn't move, someone can drag him the rest of the way there.
Kitty is very much aware that she's not exactly wanted around, but she doesn't let it get to her at all. Instead, she takes his hand softly and merely walks, partially ahead of him in silence.
She does wish that she could help, but she lets it slide, provides him the quiet he wanted.
It's not that she in particular isn't wanted, really he wouldn't mind her under any other circumstances, it's just seeing her, knowing that she's alive and well and blissfully unaware of the events in the rest of he universe.
He envies her in a way.
They reach his room and he leans against the door. "Thank you," he tells her, before opening the door and slipping on.
The door isn't all the way closed though, but whether that is an invitation or an oversight is up to Kitty.
Kitty pauses outside of the door for a good moment, staring at the door, as if wondering whether it was all right for her to enter or not. Biting down on her bottom lip, she slips into the room quietly, peeking over at the Doctor.
She actually goes to reach out to him, touch his shoulder perhaps, but her hand passes right through him, as though she wasn't meant to touch him. Of all times for her phasing to lose balance.
"You should rest..." Kitty nods, "It will help you feel better, I think."
Oh, if only she knew. Please, don't mind her Doctor. She just wants to help, she really does.
"I probably should," Kitty admits, knowing his words sting briefly, but ignores it. However, she moves to sit on the edge of the bed. Pulling the covers around him, she slips to the floor, resting her chin on the mattress.
"But I don't think I want to." Again, her words are soft once again and the hint of a smile lingers at her lips.
Kitty grins up at the Doctor and is actually a bit surprised when he reaches to touch her face. She's even more surprised at how quickly he pulls away.
She doesn't question it. Or she won't-- not now, anyway. She moves to sit on the edge of the bed again and looks at him. "Nothing's going to hurt you..."
She doens't know why shes saying this. Because she doesn't know, but part of her wants to believe she can protect him, if only for a little while. Even if it means holding onto him for dear life.
He laughs, not the rich vibrant sound that it once was but something bitter and hollow. You've got it backwards," he informs, his voice almost breaking right then and there.
All those beings gone because of him...
No one person should be able to have such an effect on the universe, not even him.
She nearly winces at the sound of his voice and his laugh. However, she contains it and lays down, whether he really would care for her to or not, and preses close to him, nuzzling her face against his arm.
"That doesn't mean, though, that you don't need protecting, too." Kitty murmurs, "You're hurt."
Kitty gives the Doctor's hand a squeeze and closes her eyes for a moment. She really wouldn't understand, something tells her this much.
She gives a sigh, "Well, you've a lot of people around here to help you." There's a sweet smile as she opens her eyes again and looks at him. "So just hold on, hm?"

"Thank you," he tells her, eyes remaining straight ahead. "I'm sorry Kitty, I just don't feel well right now, could we perhaps talk a little later?"

But she might be very wrong, too.

"You should go," he states but he doesn't mean it. Well, he does but he doesn't want her to, not yet.

"Somehow, I'm not surprised," he tells her softly., one hand moving to touch the girls face for just a moment.
The feel of skin on skin makes him shake, reminds him of what he's done and he's withdrawing his hand as if she'd just scalded him.

"I heal quickly," he mutters, a hand reaching out and lacing it's fingers with hers. "It's just a little harder this time."

"I'm sorry for this," he mutters, more to himself then to her. "I...This wasn't supposed to happen."
