Multipup Post - The Tale of the Power that Is

Dec 03, 2007 13:59

Once upon a time, there was an Inn. And in this Inn were many people, each controlled by the Powers that Be, sometimes referred to as the narration. One of the Powers that Be - the Power that Is, shall we say - controlled far too many people for her own good, and since she didn't want to clutter the Inn, shoved them all in at once. The Power that ( Read more... )

Xander's been downstairs in a comatose-thinking state for far too long. He knows he has to go home, but honestly, the idea of heading back home, back in the middle of that. He can't do it right now.

So he's very happy to see Angua on the couch across the way. He plops down on a nearby chair and smile.

"Heya, snowball-ass-kicker!"

Angua grins and thinks her book away, chuckling a little at Xander's greeting.

"Hello. You didn't do so badly yourself, the other day." You know, for someone who doesn't have any special powers or abilities.

Xander smiles, a little proudly. "I'm good with the hiding and ducking my head out just at the right moment to throw a snowball."

"You and big, dark, and scary on the other hand are like the snowball champions of the world."

She chuckles softly. "Well, being a werewolf and a mutant does give us an advantage, you know."

Here Mal, have a Lucy.

She isn't much further from the door than Mal but it hasn't captured her attention the way it has his. No, instead she's watching him and occasionally glancing at her watch.

He can't keep doing that forever and even if he could, she isn't going to let him.

"The door isn't nearly as interesting as you make it out to be," she tells him, taking a seat next to the man and turning her gaze to the door. "It may have some appeal but it isn't lasting."

Mal sighs and looks over at her, shaking his head. "I'm waitin' for my mechanic to get back. And when she does, I'm gonna have her fix my ship, and then I'm gonna toss her out the airlock."

He's not, really. But he's going to momentarily entertain the notion, just to make himself feel better about the whole situation.

"Oh, well in that case I think it might have just become a bit more interesting."

She turns to look at him, "What kind of ship?"

Mal smiles a little, and looks over. "Firefly. Transport ship. Name of Serenity."

He loves his ship. Even when she is stranded on some backwater moon.

Here, Angua, have a Kitty! Well, a sniffly, ill Kitty, but one all the same.

She had been standing to move from the fire (having desperately sought out warmth) when she notices the text the woman has in her hands. It was one she had poked through in the library a few days back. Ha, if only she knew this was the wolf she had a conversation with days before.

"That's a good one," Even when she's ill, she's grinning wide.

Angua looks up and smiles. "It is. Hi, Kitty."

She doesn't always remember who she meets when she's a wolf and who she meets in her human shape.

There is obvious surprise on Kitty's face when Angua addresses her.

"Erm, I'm sorry..." There's a small, almost nervous laugh, "But...have we met before?"

She seems to get a lot of people that know her, or look like they do, anyway. Like that young, doctor guy. J something or another. Oh, she was terrible with names sometimes.

Angua frowns and thinks back, then shakes her head. "I'm sorry. I didn't look like this the last time we met. And I didn't get to give you my name. I'm Angua."

Cecily? Yeah, still sporting that relatively athletic look. It's just what she does, anymore. She can't help it, it's become habit. When she sees Joan, though, she grins and bounds over, looking VERY hot.

"Hey, Joanie, how's it..." She trails off when she sees Luther. Something's wrong. She has never seen him look like that.

"Sunshine?" she asks hesitantly. Maybe now won't be a good time... but she'll try.

Joan looks up on hearing her name, but decides to let it go when she realizes Cecily's attention is... completely elsewhere. She's been roommates with her for a while now, it's not like she's desperate to talk to her or anything.

Luther, on the other hand, does not look up immediately. It seems to take a moment for him to even register that she's talking to him. "Hmm?"

Okay. Definitely the Luther-speak for 'please, pry into my personal life to find out what the hell is upsetting me'.

Cecily sits down next to him. "It's been a while, huh?" She'll build up to it.

He nods slightly. Screw building up to it. He's not in the mood for it.

"My brother died."

For once, the Powers that Be decide to oblige Mal, and Kaylee walks in while he's watching the door.

But given how she looks distinctly upset in a way he's probably only seen once (she missed Wash, for so long), he will (hopefully) know better than to lecture her.

"Kaylee!" he says automatically, in that 'I'm the captain and you are in such trouble' tone of his.

And then he sees her expression. And he stops. "Ni meí shì bà, mèimei?"

"Bu shi, Cap'n," she says, and something about Mal being there makes her eyes well up again. "I'm real sorry for runnin' off but Gordon was real sick and I didn't want him'n his boyfriend to be all alone when he..."

And here come the tears. She can't say it. She can't.

Mal knows what to do here. He's learned. He gets up out of his chair and walks to her quickly, wrapping his arms around her.

He's not going to talk just yet, because he gets a severe case of foot-in-mouth syndrome when he does that around upset Kaylee.
