Multipup Post - The Tale of the Power that Is

Dec 03, 2007 13:59

Once upon a time, there was an Inn. And in this Inn were many people, each controlled by the Powers that Be, sometimes referred to as the narration. One of the Powers that Be - the Power that Is, shall we say - controlled far too many people for her own good, and since she didn't want to clutter the Inn, shoved them all in at once. The Power that Is... is both lazy, and bored.

Mal is sitting in the lobby, staring intently at the door and not letting anything distract him. Kaylee is going to come back in. And when she does, he is going to yell at her quite a bit, and then drag her back to fix his gorram ship.

As he's watching the door, a blond Slayer sighs and gets up off the couch, deciding she can't put it off any longer. Buffy walks out of the Inn and into her room in Sunnydale. Summer in LA, here she comes. Hopefully a summer spent normally, buying shoes and tons of clothes, instead of slaying vampires. She likes that idea.

Meanwhile, Luther is sitting by the window quietly, staring out at the snow and nothing in particular. He's been quiet since Gordon died - it's one thing not speaking to your twin brother for years, it's another having him dead. It's a very lonely feeling, and one he's very unused to.

Joan sits in a chair near Luther, also staring out the window, but she's a lot more cheerful than he is, curled up comfortably in her chair and sipping cocoa. When she finally decides to go back home, she'll be going home soon, thank God. ...Well, no, not thank him, because she hasn't even seen God since she went to the hospital, and she's fairly sure that God really was a figment of her imagination. But the Inn, and Cecily, weren't, so that's good enough for her. And for now, she's just going to hang out and enjoy herself.

And Angua lounges on a nearby couch, reading a book of history. She doesn't know which world - it's certainly not hers - but it's entertaining enough, learning about other worlds that one of her friends might belong to. Angua's been here for about three quarters of a year, and the multiverse? Still terribly fascinating to her.
