It's the first time something like this has happened in the Inn, and Jane has decided to oblige April's few desires by temporarily changing the season from winter to spring. It's warm, but not too warm, not muddy, there's green and flowers everywhere ( Read more... )

Steve sees it, but it doesn't phase him much. He knows he looks terrible.

He smiles a little, though, politely, and holds out his hand. "I'm Steve O'Donnell." Don't mind the slight lisp. "I'm from New York."

Steve has some sense of... well, he's just outrageous. Even when he's so toned down. So he takes Vida's hand and kisses it lightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

He turns his head away to muffle a cough.

"So, friend of the bride, groom, or both?"

"Both, though more of the groom than the bride. She is very lucky," Vida says sincerely, rather pleased to once again be conversing with someone with manners!

Steve nods. "Me too. Well, I've only met April once or twice, but she seems real sweet. JD and Ben are some of my best friends. Other than Sue and G--... other than Sue. Of course. She's my best friend ever."

His voice gets a little uncertain after almost mentioning Gordon. It throws him off.

Unfortunately for Steve, Vida pays attention to details like that. "Than whom?" she prompts gently.

Steve glances off into the distance for a moment, then looks down, swallowing as much of his pain as he can manage. "Someone I-- ...lost." Steve's voice wobbles. "Though this isn't exactly the time for depressing conversations, right?"

He manages a tight smile. "But that's a conversation for less cheerful times. What do you do?"

"I'm a consultant for Mark Cohen's production company. Before that, I mostly did the drag circuit."

"Correct. For him and I, the year is 2000," she says gently, fairly certain that Steve isn't from their time. "He's now married and expecting his first child."

"Really?" Steve grins a little. "Good for him. Wow. A couple of years change a lot, huh? Though this place changes a lot, too, my friend Sue? She's actually let herself get attached to someone she met here. It's shocking, I don't know how to handle it. Just thinking about it, I might faint."

There's a slightly scruffy looking fellow standing off to the side and out of the way.

He's not sure if anyone here knows him yet, but figures he might as well attend. Just in case.
