Theo showed up at a quarter past noon just as he'd said, finding her flat easily enough and taking the lift up to the second floor. He stood outside Penelope's door for a few moments deliberating, still uncertain about revealing his secrets to her. Hopefully things would go more smoothly without Luna's feelings to worry over...
Assuming an expression of pleasant interest to cover up the insecurity, he knocked twice and then leaned against the wall beside the doorframe to wait.

Finally she came out of the kitchen with both their teas and set them down onto the coffee table and seating herself next to him. "It's probably a lot smaller than you're used to, but I'm afraid for now it'll have to do." Taking a sip, she looked back up at him. "So? I've been studying Wizarding curses for up to three months now. I'm pretty sure I've heard of whatever it seems to be plagueing you. What exactly is it that you're cursed with and why? Who started it and when? I'm more than eager to help; I find the topic fascinating. But of course you'll have to open up to me and tell me all the details..."

She set her drink down and nodded at his question. "Certainly. Where is it undertaken? I completely believe you when you say that you've done plenty of research; after all, this is not a subject matter to be taken lightly, considering the time-crunch." Laughing slightly at his choice of words, Penny finished her drink a bit too quickly and nodded again. "It is my area of expertise, after all. I think I'll be one to enjoy myself thoroughly doing this sort of work."

"Enthusiasm, yes..." Well, that wasn't something she called 'enthusiastic,' but she could live with that, certainly. She'd be lying if she'd be trying to tell herself that she wasn't attracted to Theodore. Or the fact that she could use the lay. It really had been long enough. "I don't mind, I really don't. And, well, I don't blame the men; there really isn't anything wrong with you. I just wasn't used to such spontaneous enthusiasm, is all." Really now, she felt somewhat awkward. Of course, this wasn't something that just happened to people randomly, but apparently she was the odd one in this situation. She really wasn't used to that.

"Have I made you uneasy? I do apologise. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable, Penelope. Shall I make it up to you? We could..." Theo trailed off, not entirely certain what they could do to make things less tense. Then an idea occurred to him and he gave her a brilliant smile and finished, "...have some chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce? That always helps, doesn't it? This doesn't have to be all dull business, hmm? And I should hate for you to go home disliking me over something so stupid."

Still, that was no reason to go all silly over him. He had problems, right? Opium, alcohol... and yet... everyone had problems, even her. Like eight years of nothing. She really couldn't blame him. Hrmph.

Facial expression and body language completely unreadable except insofar as they indicated deep thought, he sat inscribing circles on her palm with his thumb as he considered his choices. He didn't really know her well enough to call her a friend; friend was an extremely meaningful title for him to bestow. She had not treated everyone as she treated him, and he wondered if it was something significant.
It should be significant, considering she'd known him on sight. No Muggleborn who'd any knowledge of current events of the past few years would be so friendly to him without ulterior motive. If it was only a shag or a fling she'd been after, she'd have chosen someone more suitable, wouldn't she? Surely there were men she could better focus her attention on, ones less likely to eat her heart ( ... )
