Yeah it's pretty fucked up what Uncle Sam can do with it's powers. It's really scary if you read up on some of the executive orders signed in the last 25 years not to mention these "laws".
No kidding. And still, as angry as everyone was at Bush for the power grabs he made, nobody seems to notice that Obama hasn't exactly been in any hurry to reverse any of it. The only person you have to fear more than one with little public support who instates such policies is the one with massive public support who KEEPS said policies, that comes after.
As sad as it is, there's a demotivator that sums this whole issue up better than anything else I've seen, as absurd as it is:
