How Outlander Is Flipping Typical TV Dramas on Their Head

Sep 24, 2014 00:08

I hope everyone enjoyed "The Wedding" episode. Here's an article well worth reading.

Sam Heughan tweeted, "Did you like the wedding?" and received a thousand replies in less than 30 minutes. He may have risked breaking Twitter, but he definitely has the answer.

Thank you for sharing this article with us. Outlander is amazing on so many levels. I think the wedding episode written by a woman and directed by a woman makes all the difference. Outlander has some great writers. I am very impressed.

Oh yes, I definitely think it helped to have the two women doing this episode. But I can't complain about the work by anyone on this show. It's been truly stellar.

Glad you enjoyed the article. It makes me so happy to see Outlander and Starz getting so much praise. Hopefully, that will mean many more seasons to share with Jamie and Claire.

Holy crap that's a lot of tweets. I hope he turned off notifications...

Great article though and it articulates very well one of the reasons why Outlander has taken off in my opinion. I do find it rather amusing though that everyone seems to be focusing on the sex now though when we've been STARVED of it for FIVE WHOLE EPISODES. Can't imagine THAT happening in GoT!

Outlander writing.... firstlove02 September 24 2014, 15:14:21 UTC
It is crucial the writers get it right. I think they have a harder job then other TV writers because creating from scratch because the bar is already set so high by the book. I hope or would love to have an article about the writers. I agree that male or female the writing has been superb.

Today was the last working day for the Outlander crew. I hope they all take a much needed and so well deserved vacation. I think it is interesting that the hiatus for the viewers coincide with the end of the working season for them. Yay!!! Get some R&R!!!

Probably because they've been starved of it.

I'm just glad the subject of sex is in keeping with Outlander's story of it. I'm glad we didn't have some arbitrary scene before the wedding because I don't think that would have fit very well.

Nice article. I definitely agree that having more women writers and directors involved with the show is probably exerting a significant impact. Can't remember if Ron's co-producer Maril Davis was mentioned in the article, but i'm sure she has a great deal of (if not more) influence as well. I was just listening to the podcast and Ron mentioned that he had wanted to cut the line where Jamie says "if I need guidance, I'll ask" and was convinced by Maril and Terry Dresbach to keep it in. His interpretation of that line was very different from theirs and it was an interesting reminder of the subtle differences in perspective that can happen.

I loved this article but had not time to post. You rockstar you!

I'm so impressed by everything going into this show. It's not even funny. These writers and directors are just so brilliant.

Thanks! I'd love to be a rockstar. LOL

I love everything about the TV show, too. I could extoll its virtues for days. Maybe I already have.

I listen to these podcasts and think... I just want to get together with the ladies at OW and do our own where we just get into all the aspects of the show. If only.
