I really loved Seton's Katherine too at the same age, and like you haven't reread (and doubt I'd like it now). But it really helped to have notions of the characters (however misguided) when I came to study Chaucer's life.

I'm very, very picky about historical fiction these days: I suspect I really like it now only if it has the worldbuilding strengths of good fantasy or sf.

The horrible thing is that now I've started writing it, I've stopped reading nearly all of it - I always did pick holes in the history, now I'm starting to pick holes in the story-telling too.

Yes, please, I'd like a letter.

I know what you mean about kissing. I often say that the best kissing happens before you become lovers, because it's enticement and promise and fulfillment all rolled into one. And I too would like to be more profligate in my kissing habits without worrying that the other person takes it as a contract for future sex.

I wish there were some mode between social cheek/air kissing and 'this is foreplay'.
