I would like there to be a premiere in Los Angeles, but since nearly all the actors live in the UK, it's doubtful that will happen--it's too far away from where they live. Either NYC and/or London are fair guesses.

I'm still very perturbed that they had so little American involvement in the making of these movies. They want our money but they can't be bothered with employing our people. Very bad form, IMO.

Oh I'm sure either The Desolation of Smaug or There and Back Again will have their world premiere in LA - remember, each of the LotR films had its world premiere on a different continent, so I expect them to follow the same pattern again for the Hobbit trilogy. And they again travel around the world with it afterwards.

Well it's not like they could just set a quota of American actors. They needed actors who fit the roles and could do a convincing British accent. I'm sure Evangeline Lilly wasn't the only American who auditioned for a role, but the actor best fitting the role (and the team) wins out, in the end.

Evangeline Lilly is Canadian. :-)

Most of the actors are from the British Commonwealth. They managed to get Sean and Elijah for LotR, and they don't have British acccents without trying.

I suppose some of the crew and behind-the-scenes people were American. It'd be interesting to know. Maybe I'll look at IMDB and see if i can figure it out! lol.

Edit: I looked at IMDB, and there are nearly 3,000 people listed! I did see that a few of the producers were from the US.

DUH, you're right - I forgot that, sorry!

Yes, them and Viggo. I guess they just didn't find the perfect American fit who could do the required accent this time around.

Wow! That's a huge number, but of course with several units and a large cast and lots of location shooting... There must be a good number Americans; I know Weta Workshop and Weta Digital both had quite a few working for them during LotR, and that's just among the few who were interviewed for the EE extras.
