Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool News got a few exclusive glimpses of J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek film! The full report is here, containing some minor spoilers but it's random tidbits out of context which can't spoil the plot, IMHO. But I just had to quote what he said about Karl Urban, who of course plays McCoy:

But then there’s McCoy - when you ( Read more... )

There...you´re getting Neal McDonough whom I´ve not known until now and I get Gale Harold, my favourite actor. I haven´t followed "Desperate Housewifes" until now but I´ll give it a try because of Gale. And I haven´t been that enthusiastic about his appereance in this series either. But I guess it´s a point of having something to work on or being an unemployed actor. They will not always be able to choose. As long as my favourite actor does something every now and then that he loves to do and where he usually shines...as in indie movies...then who am I to complain.

Heh so there is more DH. Given the way it ended this last season I assumed that was the final season. First season of DH was great, but it kinda lost it so I stopped watching...well except for the eps with my men in it.

I can't wait. Bones was my favorite character -- and if Karl Urban nails it (out of respect to DeForest Kelley) I'm there.

However --- McCoy is OLDER than Kirk and would NOT have been in the academy with him. Rodenberry CLEARLY intended him to have gone into Starfleet after a bad relationship.

But I suppose we can forgive a few violations of "canon" as it were.

Urban may be good for the part, as he was a bit cranky as Eomer already, but dunno really. What it says up there doesn't make me like Kirk or McCoy in any way really, as opposed to alienating me from people pulling if not quite nepotism, then something almost as bad. I know you employ friends or help them if possible, but the way it's put up there makes me feel worse about them.

McDonough kept showing up in some Cain and Glitch icons with Alan Cumming a while back on my wanders around LJ, my only through those hearing that he'd been in some series (?) called Tin Man, too. Boo to no attention to potentially nice scifi (? I take it it's that, if Glitch *pause for cliche name groan* was the android I took him to be) and of course going nowhere at all due to that. Zooey Deschanel I had no idea about either, though someone I had on f-list was a big fan of hers (for whatever reason, I never asked) so know what you mean with the wide-eyed look. Who's DG though ( ... )
