... bad news today that I wasn't expecting, although in thinking back, I'd heard rumblings of this years ago. A guy I knew in grad school is dying of cancer and writing about it, beautifully, of course, because that is the kind of writer he is, at www.cardblueblog.com.

... watching J. put together a vintage piece of childhood play equipment. Jamie has figured out how to go down slides by himself, so maybe this thing will satisfy that during the snowy months.

Here's hoping today is better than yesterday. * I invented a cake tonight. Well, sort of. It was a plain-Jane chocolate cake, one layer, mix in one bowl, to which I added a stiff spoonful of espresso powder. This morning, I went to a Starbucks in yoga pants.
To offset my Yuppie-mama-from-the-waist-down, I wore a UC Folk Festival T-shirt.
Which I had put on backwards.
So I think my look was Yuppie-mama on the bottom and "Who missed the short bus?" on top.
Sigh.

1. I miss Oregon today.
2. I wish I had coffee.
3. Cold chicken, cheddar cheese and an apple is my favorite lunch ever.
4. I wonder if the asparagus is coming up?
5. The best part of having a kid is getting to read silly kids' books.
