Similarly, a couple of maids stood near the doorway, eyes ever vigilant. It was uncomfortable, so Rosemarine occasionally glared at them to scare them away, but it was no use; while they feared Arion, they were more afraid of his father because he was the one that had control over the family wallet.

Rosemarine suppressed a sigh (it would be rude if he did) and placed his cup down. He cracked a smile; he was used to fake politeness, so it looked sincere. "All right, I suppose. I wouldn't call it interesting. How about yours?"

"There was nothing particularly of note." It was normal for Natalia to wear a displeased look, and she did. She studied Rosemarine carefully, looking for any flaws. There were none that she could see, despite his obvious lack of similarities to her brother.

"I got a letter from my parents this morning. It seems they've decided to go back to Moscow for the summer."

Instead of getting vexed at Natalia for looking so displeased, Rosemarine actually liked it. He could compare her to a porcelain doll; she was there for the sole purpose of completing the interior design, to look pretty, act fragile, and be quiet, and nothing more. Because of those shallow reasons common among noblemen, she seemed like the perfect wife in his book.

"Are you staying here, or are you following them? It would be a shame if you left for Moscow. I quite enjoy your company," he half-lied, feigning interest. He didn't enjoy her company, but she was definitely more tolerable than most people.

"I've planned to stay here," she told him, taking another small sip of tea. "My siblings all have other engagements, and the house is lonely without them. I've also decided it would be best, to practice my French."

She hated French. It was so different from Russian, so foreign on her tongue. Natalia could speak Polish, Belorussian, and Russian to certain degrees, in addition to English. But French was nothing like any of those languages. Still, as much as she detested it, she was going to learn.
