For the liver (if it's NOT contraindicated), I heartily recommend ground milk thistle seed. It healed mine quite a bit after the pesticide exposure in 97/98 had my liver enzymes sky high (they were back to optimal levels within 6 months of having m.t. 3-4/daily). But I did NOT have ascites, and I don't know if there's any contraindications.
