Knitting: Baby Swing Jacket

No, I'm not expecting to be a grandma anytime soon, but it is the first baby item I've done. This is for a friend's baby girl. Made with Pagewood Farms yarn, from a pattern by my friend Sharon Mooney, co-owner of the Yarn Deli in Redlands. The camera flash washed out the center of the garment a bit, but around the hem and sleeves the color is right ( Read more... )

That's lovely! And great to see there's someone else out there who doesn't follow the pink-or-blue-only route. Both the babies I have knit for in recent years have been boys, so, no dresses, but I had great fun knitting unisex, comfortable trousers and overalls for them, namely, Kanoko, Juju and Whitney Van Nes' Toddler Overalls. (All links go to Ravelry.)

Maybe my brother's next one will be a girl, so I can bust out the lace and frills.

You do great work! Is the pirate ducky needle felted?

It is indeed! That's my partner, kath_ballantyne's work. She does some flat felting like that, but she's playing round a lot more with freeform design at the moment, and she's been doing the faces on the toys I've knitted. The ducky was based on an Urban Threads design, but she freehand drew it onto the base felt rather than tracing. You can see a bunch of her stuff on Flickr we've mainly been crafting for charity, lately, what with all the natural disasters, so pretty much all the knitted and felted things on the first page have been auctioned off for the QLD/NSW floods/cyclone, and the Christchurch earthquake.
