Rather than go out and buy a padded laptop sleeve like a normal person, I got the idea to knit one. My first thought was to felt it, but I found a pattern on Ravelry.com for one that looks woven. In involves cabling every other stitch, back and front and makes a very nice pattern. Not easy knitting, but worth it for the look.

My latest creation. The Far Away, So Close shawl by Carina Spencer. Knit in Drop Spindle Superwash Merino #SW91 with Malabrigo Rios Superwash Merino in Pearl Ten trim. It's a top down pattern, featuring bands of garter, stocking, half linen, eyelet, and drop stitch.

Rain is such a treat here, and today is nicely grey and cold and wet. The dogs and I are enjoying the fire and the patter of rain on the roof.

Emma is actually white, but toasts herself like a marshmallow in front of the fire.

I put in a long and very productive day today, and earned a bit of knitting time tonight, watching recorded Prime Suspect. Finished up the baby sweater for my friend Nancy. Here it is, all blocked and drying but sans buttons. Same pattern as the green sweater, but a size larger.

Today's work tea is Sensational Teas Golden Tian Hong, a tippy black from Yunnan Province. It's very smooth and went nicely with the toasted bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese I had for lunch. No, I'm not expecting to be a grandma anytime soon, but it is the first baby item I've done. This is for a friend's baby girl. Made with Pagewood Farms yarn, from a pattern by my friend Sharon Mooney, co-owner of the Yarn Deli in Redlands. Here's the new one. I knitted the square, then the sweater body and sleeves, set the sleeves in, and slip stitched it to the square. My favorite so far!
