I'm sort of funny about it even when I find art with characterisation I like. Even if I approve of it, it's still not mine and I just kinda can't do it. Maybe it is because I draw and I can be pretty weird and prideful about that (even though I'm not that good, I get sort of "well why don't I just draw it myself!" about it sometimes), but then again I don't often use icons of my own fanart for RP accounts either.

Haha, yeah, same here, pretty much; for a while I wouldn't use any icons I hadn't made myself, either, but I figured a few years back that that was just plain silly.

Ahaha I always kind of wish I could be assed to do that sort of thing. My icon keywords are always very messy-lookin' and I generally hope no-one will look at my RP journals' icon pages. >>;

True say! I'm glad you don't think I'm totally nuts. xD;

I totally agree. I mean, I guess some people use doujinshi if they don't .. want to or are incapable of drawing their own, but yeah. I can't use other people's fanart, unless it's for like... a crack OOC icon.

Yeah, when it's characters in books with no ... canonical pictures that can be icon'd, the last thing I'd expect is for EVERYONE TO DRAW THEM, but ... I'm picky enough that the reason I'm putting off the schoolboy!Remus Lupin application I'm writing is that I know I am going to have to draw all of his icons otherwise I will not be satisfied :T

Ew yes D: And for things like that ... I hate ... using real life PBs because I can never find someone that looks like that I want. LOL.

Oh ew yes D: I hate PBs. They never look right and I have the same kind of characterisation issues as I do with other people's fanart and stuff like that, but with the added bonus of it being a REAL PERSON who has not given their consent for you to pretend they are a ninja or a wizard or a psychopath. It just makes me uncomfortable.

I try to stick to only official art release pictures for my icons because I know if I was a fanartist and I saw someone iconing my art without asking, I'd be pretty pissed. I also feel bad for Japanese fanartists whose work gets stolen and stuck up on English sites without permission, so I definitely don't use those icons.

I'd feel a little better using doujin icons (since doujins are somewhat commercial anyway) but I still don't have any... and it's really, really tempting sometimes. Alas!

I don't think it's just you! Though I'm not EXACTLY like that...it's more like. The different 'versions' of characters I play, when I play more them in more than one place, sometimes 'look' or 'act' different. Uh. I'm not sure how I can phrase this while it makes sense. Sometimes they act and react and have facial expressions out of canon, but sometimes they're a little different, or tweaked, either because they've lived through two years of RPing or are not as canon as another.

/rambling that probably doesn't make sense. >_>

NO THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE. I get you. So you're not going to want to use the same icons for all of them. @_@

YEAH. And sometimes fanart/doujin gets their expressions PERFECTLY. I tried drawing my own but I hated them. jakljhd.

XD I don't know, man, even when I see fanart or doujinshi with an expression that seems right, I just can't bring myself to use it because it's still someone else's Deidara or Roxas or whoever.

You know, I do know. D: I had to use a little doujinshi art for one of my Karin journals (for... porn... reasons >> and for when she was a kid) and it feels so wrong. D: D: D:

D:

I've uploaded doujinshi icons to a couple of RP accounts before and then never been able to use them 8|
