I don't understand what is happening down in New Orleans. During Hurricane Floyd in North Carolina, most people came together when nobody had anything but the clothes on their back. I'm pretty shocked at how slow they've been mobilising the aid. I know getting people evacuated is a huge operation but couldn't they get a helicopters to drop food parcels like usually do in crisis situations like this? It's a start.

The lawlessness is frightening. Like you said, I can understand the desperation leading people to steal but shooting at people trying to help?! WTF?

Kinda scary that the richest nation in the world is having such a hard time handling this...I just hope the fatalities list doesn't rise any higher :(

What gets me is the people who are shooting at those trying to help them. I'm angry at the slowness, but once the military or whoever *does* finally arrive, I believe I would take the help rather than try to kill them!

What gets me is that Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and several other countries have offered help and Bush is so reluctant to accept any of it. He keeps saying "We're America, we will take care of it ourselves...blah blah blah." There are rats eating corpses in the street. We are NOT taking care of it.
