I think the issue is money. Definitely. I'm pretty sure she said the issue was that they would be making profits on her work. But to press charges, they have to use the intellectual property argument. It's the only way to legally push the case.

Personally, though, if she asked me to stop doing something, I'd do it. She's more than supportive of fans. There's no reason to abuse it.

Good luck on finals!

I don't know where her true stance is, honestly. Because on the one hand, she's right to say that it's not about money going into her pocket, obviously she's a billionaire and that's not an issue. She's taking the 'setting a legal precedent' angle in terms of an author's protection of material. But the problem there is that she would have to go after most of the fandom to protect her 'intellectual property rights.'

I get that they would be making money off of her material, but obviously they are citing Rowling as the source (aren't they?) so where's the violation? Especially alongside innumerable reference books already in circulation. I guess I would need to see the manuscript in front of me to judge this fairly. But I think either way she's opening a can of worms on this and it will probably backfire. Just tell the world not to buy it and the thing will flop!

And yes, luck on finals in much needed. I'm almost finished with my thesis though! =)

*nod* I agree with your stance. I think it's silly. But I can totally see why they're doing it.
