Midsommar was so trippy, I felt like the whole movie was high. Just, everything was weird and off so I guess the acting didn't stand out to me as much? Or I was just so terrified of what would happen next, I couldn't focus on the acting LOL.
Yeah, I'm sure casting Pine was done to get attention but why for a movie about Scottish history???
I haven't seen the film, but, if only for Florence Pugh and my love of period movies, I might take a look in future. As for Chris Pine, I will operate on the headcanon that he's Captain Kirk who time traveled and wants to keep up the ruse of kinghood until his ship comes to get him XD
It's not awful, it's just very run of the mill history movie. It is really graphic too, I had to turn away a few times because you just knew they were going to show everything.
I've still to watch this, shockingly. I'm always wary of movies about Bruce because I get so pissy when they embellish or get things wrong.
There are quite a few Scottish actors in this, but it would be much better if they had Scots in the places of the main characters. I mean, I love Chris Pine, but my favourite Bruce will always be Angus MacFaddyn ♥ He actually reprised the role in a new movie about Robert the Bruce :) I got mum it for Christmas, but I haven't watched it yet.
Wee bit of trivia, one of my favourite Scots Song musicians actually taught the cast how to sing in old Scots, and apparently there was a ballad that Chris Pine sang that was cut from the movies, and apparently it was really good. I think they also did some of the music for the film :)
BWHAHA now I want you to watch it so I can read your rant! Maybe you should live tweet it? HAHAHAHA.
HUH, it looks like that Robert the Bruce movie didn't get a US release! I wonder if Netflix blocked it...CONSPIRACY!
I saw one review that was edited because I guess there was a different cut of the film they showed at a festival prior to its Netflix release? I wonder if it was in that. The movie felt a little uneven, like they wanted some moments of levity but could never quite fit them in with all the big historical moments they needed to hit. Lots of respect for Pine though for learning the accent so well.
Apparently the Robert the Bruce movie had a lot of issues with the release. Many UK cinemas wouldn't show it and there were actually a few boycotts of theatres because of it. I think a lot of people were pissed because there are always so many movies about English royals, yet when the rare Scottish movie pops up it's a battle to get it released

Who were the musicians? Are they on Spotify?

Why were they boycotting the movie? Because the focus was on Scottish independence?
