SPEAKING OF ROME....

As soon as I can afford some god quality black velveteen or wool, I'm gonna make a mid-16th century dress in the Roman style:

"...Spanish fashion did not appear totally dominant: as well as the Tuscan cities, only in Rome, and even more so in Venice, did the ladies continue to display their throats and part of the bosom" (Moda a Firenze page 84)

I like the clean unadorned style, I like it very much!

Yes, clean! That is a very good word on the Roman style. Very clean.

You might want to consider going for a very dark brown, or winered or dark green rather than pure black.... it would be interesting. I think black can be very harsh with Scandinavian complexions.... Have been making tulle underskirts for my daughter and her friends. Three tiers, two layers. Bottom tier is 27 metres.... it's like being swallowed by a meringue....

Hahahaha, you gave me some awesome mental images right now. Underskirts of doom!

As for the Roman styled dress, I'm not too worried on wearing black. My complexion is more Mediterranean, with olive skin and dark hair and eyes. I'm more often taken as French or Croatian (!) than Scandinavian when I'm traveling...

Yep, great fun, but a bit overwhelming, and runaway pins everywhere!

See your point about the colours, I hadn't thought of that, had rather carelessly placed you in the "Scandinavian complexion category". Sorry!! ;-)
