Originally I thought green wasn't that popular for dresses in 16th century Italy. I thought there might be a link to the Ottoman empire and the muslims, where green were (and is) a sacred colour, and that Christians of this reason avoided green. I was very wrong ( Read more... )

I love green and have to plan a florentine gown for my trip to US in July. Wearing my Elizabethan gown in the heat today reminded me I need to make something cooler to wear.

Lovely. And I like the one of the nurse - as she has plain sleeves, and a linnen fichu - not the sheer silk - so it'd be possible to recreate that :-)

I share your love for green! It's an underrated period colour. And it seems to have been worn by both nobility and working class.

redthreaded, glad it was of help even. And fiofiorina, I agree about the nurse. There's a nice simplicity in her dress, and I like the different lacing in front. I always thought her dress was black, but it seems it was due to the scan. The green colour made it even cooler.
