Isn't it? I've become a fan of random domestic depictions from the Renaissance. Love to see what they wear and how they lived!

Either an ickle cat, or Knerten... Tee-hee.

I agree about the brother/little boy. But if I understood it correctly, it's an extreme closeup; what you see to the left is the edge of a cloak, and to the right a bit of hair. The children are meant to be waaay in the background and only a small detail. Maybe the painter wasn't as skilled in miniature work? Or maybe the boy-child has some sort of significance, I don't know.
