STRANGE... STUFF...

We were visiting the Vatican museum last week, and in one of the first rooms in the Pinacotek I stumbled across some small narrative paintings by an unknown Tuscan artist. My guess that it is a shawl, based on the second one in the basket on her head and similar shawls seen in this painting. What's inside, I haven't a clue. Perhaps water jugs?

Looks like a round tipped scarf to me. :-) I think the ends are flat and decorated like that possibly to show an excess use of yarn?
