Don't ever try to send an A4 brochure from Rome...

Why?

I picked up a "Phantom of the Opera" brochure in Copenhagen on May 16.th, for a guy in the US. The day after I felt for Rome, and planned to send it from there. Admittedly, I didn't do anything about it the first three days, but finally I showed up at the post office to send it ( Read more... )

We were visiting the Vatican museum last week, and in one of the first rooms in the Pinacotek I stumbled across some small narrative paintings by an unknown Tuscan artist. In two of the motifs I found that the women had some strange... stuff around their neck. It looks like a shawl with a ball in each end. The pattern and general shape of the shawl ( Read more... )

I've been spending some days in Rome now, and it's quite a heatwave going on here. We wake up to 30 degrees celsius in the morning, and that is long before the sun starts burning. I took some photos at Palazzo Pitti before I understood pictures wasn't allowed (it really varies when it's allowed and not... Surprisingly many allows photos without flash, for example the Vatican museum, the Capitol museum and the Palazzo Vecchio. In other places you almost get knocked down for even asking...). The Vatican, no less. Or rather, the Vatican museum. Studying Mannerism in Rome somehow always ends up with Michelangelo and his "Sixtine Chapel". The safest answer to the questions "Who/what is this inspired by/of?" and "Where have we seen this before?" is "Michelangelo".... ( Read more... )
