EMBROIDERED STUFF

My beloved grandmother is bored with embroidering tablecloths, and she is more than eager to make stuff for me. Which is awesome! A small problem is that I mostly make Renaissance stuff, and embroidered stuff from this era is basically monocrome (blackwork, gold borders etc). You could do some Elizabethan stuff. They had some colorful embroidery.

Or maybe go slightly past her death and do some early Stuart stuff. They have very colorful embroidery. Really pretty. Plimoth Plantation is recreating an early Stuart jacket (Laton Jacket maybe?). Here is a link to the blog about the sleeves, but if you look around there are lots of pictures of the embroidery done on the rest of the jacket too.

And depending on your geographic region, "blackwork" doesn't have to be black or monochrome. I'm not an embroiderer myself but Attack Laurel has done some lovely pieces. Her website has some of her work and very likely the documentation for it as well: http://www.extremecostuming.com/
