A FEW PICS

I took some photos at Palazzo Pitti before I understood pictures wasn't allowed (it really varies when it's allowed and not... Surprisingly many allows photos without flash, for example the Vatican museum, the Capitol museum and the Palazzo Vecchio. In other places you almost get knocked down for even asking...). The pics I took didn't turn out ( Read more... )

How cool! Thanks for another great post! I found the various photo policies confusing too. The first time that I went to the V&A I brought my tripod and they let me in but I had to sign this weird contract in blood that mentioned something about my first born... Ok, not really, but it did pretty stringently say that I could not put them on the internet. So I haven't. I do have *other* pictures from the V&A that were taken without the tripod from a different trip to the V&A and I didn't have to sign anything... so I feel it's ok to post those. Or maybe that's just some sort of morally gray justification I talked myself into. ;-)

I've never seen the last portrait there of Eleonora di Toledo in it's full context; thanks for that! I've always thought it was a beautiful painting, I had no idea it was on a ceiling!

How odd! I've actually noticed many places have a "no tripod" sign, but regular pics are allowed. It' a bit "WTF??".

Glad you liked the Eleonora photos! I was also surprised to see the placement and surroundings of it. I've drooled over the painting in Moda a Firenze and other places, but I never realized what kind of "advanced" context it belonged to. Very cool. Here's Cosimo at the opposite end, plus one of the "secret cabinets":

Sweet! Thanks! I had similar confusion, and when I asked about it they said it's because they didn't want any 'professional' pictures taken of their stuff. Like something that someone would sell prints of. I guess crappy amateur photos are fine though ;-) I totally want a secret painting/door...
